MOTELISATION

motels2

Saturday, August 28th from 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This round-table will be held in a reception room at Motel Oscar in Longueuil.

Participants wishing to attend will be able to get a ride from the Longueuil Metro to the motel by RSVP ‘ing prog@dare-dare.org or calling 514-793-7002 before the 27th of August.

DARE-DARE and curator Geneviève Chevalier are thrilled to present Motelisation, a round-table event that will find Roxanne Arsenault and Gerard Beaudet tackling, from several diverse vantage points, the political, architectural, historic and socio-cultural issues surrounding motels in all their tacky glory.

Motelisation is in conjunction with the recent exhibition of the same name curated by Genevieve Chevalier for the Foreman Gallery at Bishops University. The exhibition explored the themes and aesthetic concerns of the world of the motel through the eyes of several Canadian artists: Alison S.M. Kobayashi & Gintas Tirilis (Toronto); Andrew King & Angela Silver (Calgary + Montreal); Chantal Séguin (Sherbrooke) and Andrée Anne Vien (Montreal).

An event organised by DARE-DARE, facilitated by Sophie Le-Phat Ho and Anne Goldenberg and directed by the participants.

All people – whether we consider ourselves artists, citizens or activists - help invent, defend and shape the diverse meanings of today’s city. We do so in a multiplicity of ways. Some appropriate platforms. Others instigate new concepts of what space and time can mean. Still others struggle for their rights and the survival of their neighborhoods.
