“I would like to climb to the top of the building to watch the project grow. I like just being there, on a cloudy day, chalking away as people pass by.” -Iona-
For the past month Iona’s project has grown and, resulting from the whims of the weather, has been erased. Twice a week she goes to the sites to trace motifs in chalk on the cement. The traditional geometric and contemporary motifs are created by using bits and pieces found at the site (garbage can lid, a string, a piece of wood, etc.) and though interactions with the residence of Habitations de Mentana.

Iona Fournier-Tombs is a multidisciplinary artist who works and lives in Montreal. She draws inspiration from her travels and the encounters to build her artistic projects. Last winter she lived in a village in Senegal where she worked in a women’s cooperative. It was there that she learned to simply “be with”, to live in the moment.
