ANIMAUX URBAINS

Since September 2000, I have chosen to explore an urban habitat where I can observe the encounters between humans and animals. This habitat is located on the outskirts of the Longueuil Regional Park, at the limit between the natural and the urbanized environment. It contains all the streets that border the park and those that cross it. I found there strange and disarticulated forms of animals in edge of the streets. I collected and documented these crushed animal forms. These discoveries led me to act directly in the habitat. In the Regional Park of the city of Longueuil, my intervention will take the form of a road sign that will display its "crushed animal crossings". During this same period and in the preceding months, I will install mailboxes in the park and publish questions in the local newspapers for the residents of the habitat it explores. These questions and mailboxes will invite visitors to describe their encounters with the animals they encounter on a daily basis.

My sculptural production over the past few years has evolved into a work that grafts works to a habitat or character. In order to do this, I have to define a research space for myself that allows me to meet and observe people in their daily lives. This attitude has led me to realize projects such as those presented at the Bibliothèque centrale de Montréal in 1998 (les artistes de la bibliothèque centrale) and at the Centre des arts actuels Skol in 1999 (a collection).
