Loriane Thibodeau
Loriane Thibodeau is first and foremost a civic-minded artist. Stimulated by the challenges of adapting to places and audiences, Loriane is especially interested in sculptural installations, collaborative research, and participatory art. Loriane’s work echoes the changeability of life with an emphasis on the breaking points. False glamour and a certain degree of rusticity are combined in her work to question notions of utility and futility in mundane objects. Twisting their passive or active functions by withholding information, these “utilitarian sculptures” both well-known and unusual, reveal the porous nature of definitions.
She holds two technical degrees in crafts (ceramics and sculpture), and a BFA in Studio Arts – Major in Ceramics with a Minor in Art Education which included studying and teaching at Lapin Yliopisto / University of Lapland in Finland. Loriane is an artist-educator teaching at the Cégep level, and a consultant with expertise in ceramics, sculpture and public art. Her current master’s research at Concordia University combines material practice, intersectoral sociology and community engagement.
