Stéphane Gilot

Stéphane Gilot

I have a very special attachment to the Centre. It provided me with my first exhibition opportunity in Montreal when I arrived in Quebec in 1997 (the architectural installation “C'est en suivant la frontière, en longeant la surface”) and I found there a welcoming family and a place of involvement in the city's artistic community. As a member of the Board (1998-2004); in 1998, I curated “L'algèbre d'Ariane” with the help of Caroline Boileau, an exchange project between a group of artists from Liège (supported by the Centre Les Brasseurs) and Montreal. This project, which explored collaboration and contextual approaches in unconventional spaces, was characterized by three parts: two exhibitions (Liège and Montreal) and a publication: “Mémoire vive - L'algèbre d'Ariane” (2004). In 1999, I wrote a text for the publication “Orbitae” based on an interview with J. F. Prost; in 2018, I participated in the ideation and programming of Duologie; in 2019, I wrote with C. Boileau a text on DARE-DARE for the section “Histoire d'un lieu” of the Liège magazine “Dérivation”.
