Plaques de goût, a project by artist Franck Bragigand, consists in the painting of sewer plates in neighbourhoods bordering the park with no name where DARE-DARE elected its quarters in July 2006. These doorways which open up on underground Montreal, where electric wires and telecom cables sprawl; where man-made and natural waste flow, are nevertheless opened every day by the people whose job it is to open them.
This project aims to give sewer plates a more tasteful and whimsical image, transforming them into paintings, works of art, doors which are a little more pleasant to open and perhaps even to contemplate. Chosen colours will be in harmony with the constituent elements of the sewer plate's immediate environment - in situ paintings on sidewalks, in parks and alleyways... The works of Franck Bragigand attempt to alter public spaces in such a way as to make them appear in an entirely different light, so that they can ultimately exist and be seen in a new manner.
A French artist who has been living in the Netherlands for the past ten years, Franck Bragigand's main focus is on accentuating objects and spaces through the use of colour, working primarily with paint and salvaged materials. Since the late nineties, his works have been presented in many countries: the Netherlands, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, and the United States.
