Altars for Becoming / Mga Altar ng Pagiging
Over the course of a month, an altar will transform Sainte-Cunégonde Park. This altar will serve as a living portal, not a monument or a static shrine, but a co-created structure that invites curiosity and reimagination.
Over the course of a month, an altar will transform Sainte-Cunégonde Park. This altar will serve as a living portal, not a monument or a static shrine, but a co-created structure that invites curiosity and reimagination. Drawing from Filipino altar practices, the altar becomes a threshold between memory, the present and possible futures. It honours multiple selves shaped by community, foundational elements, unheralded histories, diaspora, movement and desire. Andi Vicente invites the public to reflect on ancestry, migration, metamorphosis and joy as a form of resistance. Through touch, voice, inscription, offering or gesture, the altar expands perceptions of relation and contribution to a shared memory. Evolving over several weeks, it becomes a collective, embodied archive where traces of the past meet the imaginaries of becoming.
