Histoire de famille - récits dessinés

Histoire de famille - récits dessinés
During her residency at DARE-DARE, Annabelle Brazeau will explore notions of healing and compassion in the family context. Histoire de famille - récits dessinés will take the form of a graphic novel micro-edition produced in collaboration with a literacy group from the CÉDA organization in Little Burgundy. The artist will open a discussion on the great diversity of family realities in the neighborhood, then draw inspiration from these conversations to create a graphic novel.

CONFLUENCES
Back for its second year, the CONFLUENCES residency, a DARE-DARE initiative, aims to welcome an artist from Quebec for an 8-week stay each year, enabling them to explore and get to know the Sud-Ouest as a place to recharge their batteries and create. The artist is housed in an apartment provided by artist Douglas Scholes, a long-standing partner of DARE-DARE.

CONFLUENCES is a three-year cycle of annual two-month residencies, during which a guest artist develops an original project nourished by the specific context of the neighboring areas hosting DARE-DARE. This initiative is made possible by the extraordinary support of the Sud-Ouest borough.

Annabelle Brazeau is a graduate artist in visual arts from UQÀM. Her nomadic lifestyle, from Baie-Saint-Paul to Sept-Îles, infuses her projects with a desire to connect with others. Her illustrations are characterized by the use of complementary and vibrant colors, evoking an intimacy that is sometimes comforting and sometimes bittersweet.

Her work has been selected for Charlevoix's Pays'Art public art program, and she has exhibited her pieces at the Société d'art et d'histoire de Beauport, the Parcours muséal de la Maison Mère, and the Carrefour Culturel Paul-Médéric de Baie-Saint-Paul.

In May 2023, she self-published the first chapter of her graphic novel, Astra, and is currently working on the continuation of the story. Additionally, Annabelle Brazeau is part of the PAAC collective, which has an exhibition planned as part of the 2024 program at Atoll.

Project funded under the Agreement on the cultural development of Montreal between the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec and by the Sud-Ouest borough.
