BOOK LAUNCH

ASPÉRITÉS EN MOUVEMENTS ⎟ FORME, ESPACE, CORPS, SCULPTURE, PÉDAGOGIE

This book brings together five texts written between 1996 and 2000. Through spiralling movements—expanding or contracting—they explore different ways of allowing certain rough edges of the world to come toward us, gently drawing on the thread they extend, watching them grow into the space they occupy, and accepting the ways they reshape our own. This attitude of trust in the movements of things and beings also underpins a pedagogy that invents itself through people, contexts, and materials.

Pedagogy of Form (journal, 1996–1997) pays particular attention to form in the search for new modes of perception. The way this daily practice continually returns to sculpture leads naturally to the text The Body of Sculpture (1997), an unfinished meditation that opens onto a new path. In the City, the Man Who Walks (published in Presències en l'Espai Públic Contemporani, Barcelona, Fall 1998) continues this exploration. The Movement of Place (published in Mobilité et résonances, DARE-DARE, 2000) conveys the experience of a body inhabiting place and space. This reflection continues in the final text, He Dances Space (written for the journal Contredanse, Dance and Architecture, Brussels, 2000).
