CALL FOR PROPOSALS
CELEBRATION AND SPECIAL PROGRAMMING for the 40th anniversary of DARE-DARE
To celebrate the center's 40th anniversary, DARE-DARE invites emerging artists to propose a performance piece for a festive, explosive 40-hour event.

DEADLINE: JANUARY 5, 2026
To celebrate the center's 40th anniversary, DARE-DARE invites emerging artists to propose a performance piece for a festive, explosive 40-hour event that will take place continuously over three days in 2026, from Friday, March 27 at 8 p.m. to Sunday, March 29 at noon.
During these three days, DARE-DARE will set up its artistic camp at the Ateliers Jean-Brillant. Thirty performances will intersect and respond to each other day and night. Among them, fifteen creations by emerging artists will dialogue with fifteen actions by artists who have shaped the center's history over the past forty years.
Punctuated by meals and group activities, the event is designed to commemorate the history of the artists' center and perpetuate its legacy, break down barriers between generations, promote togetherness, and encourage a quality of presence to oneself and others. DARE-DARE wishes to create a space for friendly encounters and exchanges where artists and audiences can meet, share, and forge links. The idea is to co-create a modular and welcoming space where everyone can spontaneously intervene to inhabit the place in their own way.
The committee encourages proposals of all kinds, open and experimental, which may be offbeat, improvised, or DIY, leaving room for the unexpected, spontaneity, participation, and sound, visual, material, or performative experimentation.
Modalities
The performances will take place within thematic blocks, each offering a unique atmosphere spread over a 4-hour time slot (please consult the schedule). We invite artists to explore the different slots on offer and choose the one(s) that resonate most with their universe, in order to imagine an intervention in harmony with the atmosphere of the moment.
Please note that the actions already indicated in the time blocks serve as guides, a very open framework from which to draw inspiration. You are invited to propose a project that engages in dialogue with these actions, without being limited to them.
Your proposal, in a format that suits you, must address the following points:
- Describe your proposed action and its duration (200 words max.)
- Explain your interest in DARE-DARE's 40th anniversary (300 words max.) Provide concrete examples of your own artistic achievements. Accepted formats: PDF document, mp4 video (max. 3 minutes), JPG images (max.)
- Demonstrate your understanding that on-site presence is expected and that you will be able to provide your own materials and installation.
Conditions offered by the center:
- A stipend of $440
- Active artist membership for one year
- Non-exhaustive photographic documentation will be taken sporadically over the three days. However, there is no guarantee that each work will be extensively documented.
Please note:
- This call for submissions is exclusively for emerging artists (5 years or less of experience).
- Proposals must be self-sufficient in terms of technology; no equipment or technical assistance will be provided. The organizing committee will already have its hands full.
- The event will take place in a wheelchair-accessible venue. Please mention this in your application so that we can welcome you and meet your needs.
Please send everything in a single PDF file or via WeTransfer before January 5, 2025 (noon, Montreal time) to: prog@dare-dare.org
Please note that applications received after this date will not be considered. If you have any questions or special requests, please contact Martin Dufrasne at: prog@dare-dare.org
