Noémi McComber’s interest in monuments and national emblems is through re-examining their place and pertinence in the face of today’s geopolitical and social realities. She will take over different historical monuments within the quartier des Faubourgs using performative interventions that play with the signs and symbols claiming to reflect and represent the collective and Quebecois identity of local communities. She will realise a series of interventions with the help of several collaborators, of reconfigured flags and of various accessories like nets, banners and badges. These actions will aim to put into question the characteristics of monuments: their placement, their reason for being and their historical significance. Thus, McComber will challenge these historical icons with new symbols from contemporary culture, Quebec folklore and local realities.
