Cultural Mediation and Programming Assistant

DARE-DARE is looking for a dynamic and passionate individual to fill the position of Cultural Mediator and Programming Assistant.


DARE-DARE is looking for an intern as part of the Conseil des arts de Montréal's DémArt program. The internship will run from June 1 to November 27, 2026, for a total of 600 hours.


Position: Cultural Mediator and Programming Assistant


The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for running La HALTE, DARE-DARE's outdoor documentation center (located in Sainte-Cunégonde Park), and coordinating the PASSEPORT 2026 project. To see previous editions of PASSEPORT, click here!


About the center: DARE-DARE center de diffusion d'art multidisciplinaire de Montréal is an artist-run center dedicated to the dissemination of artistic practices in public space. Its offices are currently located at 2515 Delisle Street in Montreal, and its mediation center for art in public space, La HALTE, is located in Sainte-Cunégonde Park, just a few minutes from Lionel-Groulx metro station.


La HALTE - Pavillon de référence et de réflexion sur l'art dans l'espace public (Pavilion for reference and reflection on art in public space) wishes to promote accessibility to documentation, and to offer a selection of documentary tools paying particular attention to public art and site/context-specific projects. Here you will find a selection of publications on art in the public space, art and politics, art action, architecture, design, urban planning, decolonization of the arts, citizen and participatory approaches, zines, artists' books and micro-publishing...and much more!


The position at La HALTE is a cultural mediation role in public space.


** The internship offer is conditional upon obtaining funding through the DémArt program.


Eligibility for the Conseil des arts de Montréal's déMART-MTL program


  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident on the date of application
  • Be a part of cultural diversity (ethnocultural or visible minorities)
  • Be an immigrant, newcomer, or first-generation
  • Be a self-employed worker (practicing an art on your own account) in accordance with the laws concerning the status of artists and conditions of employment in Quebec
  • Be domiciled on the island of Montreal

Job responsibilities :


Cultural mediation :

  • In charge of La HALTE, a mediation center for art in the public space (located in a shipping container in Parc Sainte-Cunégonde) :
  • Reception and cultural mediation with the public: explain the mandate of the artist-run center, its past, current and future activities ;
  • Management of the library collection, presentation of works on display and to the public;
  • Responsible for La HALTE's cultural mediation activities, according to the programming schedule.

Programming:

  • Coordinate the Public Writing component (illuminated sign) of the 2025-2026 programming by ensuring weekly posting and documentation of the poem and maintenance of the sign ;
  • Assist the team in carrying out public programming activities and events;
  • Assist the Director of Artistic Programming with preparations for events related to the Centre's 40th anniversary: follow up with artists, approach local businesses for partnerships, assist with communication between the various parts of the project;
  • All other related tasks.



Qualities and Skills Required:

  • Communication skills in French and English (the working language at DARE-DARE is French, yet the Little Burgundy district is often English-speaking or allophone);
  • Ability to communicate and explain current art ideas and concepts in French and English, to both informed and uninitiated audiences;
  • Ability to interact with a varied public, of different ages and backgrounds;
  • Ability to work in a public space;
  • Strong interest in art books and archiving practices;
  • Autonomy, dynamism, versatility, reliability, punctuality;
  • Interpersonal, organizational and initiative skills;
  • College or university studies in the arts, art history, museology, management of cultural organizations or related fields;
  • Experience in cultural mediation;
  • Spanish or other language, an asset;
  • Knowledge of the Quebec artist-run center network, an asset.



Position: temporary

Start date: June 1, 2026

Duration: From June 1, 2026, to November 27, 2026

Schedule: Approximately 4 days per week for a total of 600 hours (exact schedule to be determined with the selected candidate)

Salary: $23 per hour
