The Apartment
Shortly before the pandemic, a small group of Montreal artists were given access to a vacant apartment in a century-old building. They spent time there alone, and later in pairs. Unforgettable conversations emerged—among themselves, but also with the singular space they inhabited.

Research residency with Anne Bertrand, Karilee Fuglem, Douglas Scholes, karen elaine spencer, Mindy Yan Miller and Johannes Zits.
Not long before the pandemic, a few Montreal artists had access to a vacated apartment in a 100-year-old building. Its heat and water had been shut off, and it was full of the belongings of the former tenant. The air was heavy, the feeling was heavy. They spent time there alone and in pairs. They had unforgettable conversations with each other, and with that space. It wasn’t to be an exhibition, or a studio or a renovation project, but itself. A story of stories. And now, for a month, they’ve been able to go back, together, without pandemic restraints. They have each lived through loss in these years, aging, too. The apartment welcomes them. They return, with respect.
*Spontaneous Support Initiative*
Beyond its regular programming, DARE-DARE occasionally offers support to projects initiated by its members. Such support may include administrative assistance, insurance coverage, or the promotion of initiatives through DARE-DARE’s networks and communication platforms. These contributions are intended to foster the visibility and circulation of projects and are provided without artist fees or royalties.
