Anna Jane McIntyre

Anna Jane McIntyre is a visual artist and mother. Her practice involves metamorphosis, sign-making, reflection, looking, doing, breathing, volunteer nudges and micro-activism. Through her work and the study of behaviors and visual cues, Anna examines how we perceive, create and maintain our idea of self, belonging and culture. Her projects can take the form of giant emojis, feminist foosball tables, floats, community workshops, commercial signs, fantastical thinking forests, time-travelling soundscapes, urban ecology notebooks for BIPOC kids, public forums, messaging services for love letters or tributes to the forgotten. Anna's projects are an expression of Afro-presentism that combine her personal cultural influences (Trinidadian, British, Canadian by adoption) through the juxtaposition of familiar materials transposed into new contexts. Her work acknowledges the past and the present, imagining in a surreal dream what remains to come.
